E-Biking in Burgenland: Flat Rides, Big Skies, and Wine Country

Burgenland is Austria’s flattest and sunniest province, perfect for e-biking at a relaxed pace. With wide-open landscapes, vineyards stretching to the horizon, and gentle rolling hills, it’s ideal for those who prefer smooth, scenic routes over alpine climbs.

Neusiedlersee

One of the best-known rides is around Lake Neusiedl, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Neusiedler See cycle path takes you through reed beds, wine villages, and nature reserves, with the option to hop on a ferry and shorten your loop. Other great routes include the Kirschblütenradweg near Donnerskirchen and the B10 “Lakeside Trail”, both offering peaceful riding with plenty of places to stop.

Burgenland is well-suited for cyclists. You’ll find dedicated bike paths, e-bike rentals, charging stations, and lots of bike-friendly guesthouses, especially in the wine regions. There is a rail connection to the Neusidlersee; however, the rest of Burgenland has no railway.

Sunshine

With more than 300 days of sunshine a year, Burgenland has one of the longest cycling seasons in Austria. Spring brings cherry blossoms, summer is all about lakeside stops and wine tasting, and autumn is harvest time, arguably the best season for riding here.

I’ve explored northern and central Burgenland by e-bike, especially around the lake and through the wine regions. My favourite routes and tips will be listed on the site to help you plan your trip.

If you’re after easy-going rides, good weather, and a glass of wine at the end of the day, Burgenland is a brilliant choice.
