E-Biking in Upper Austria & the Salzkammergut: Lakes, Forests, and Rolling Countryside
Upper Austria is a varied and rewarding region for e-biking, offering everything from flat riverside paths to gentle hills and alpine lake circuits. The Salzkammergut area, which spans parts of Upper Austria, is particularly stunning, featuring crystal-clear lakes, lush valleys, and picturesque villages that make every ride a joy.
The region is home to some classic cycling routes, including the Salzkammergut Cycle Path, which links 13 lakes, and the Römerradweg, which mixes history and scenery as it winds through the countryside. The Danube Cycle Path (Donauradweg) also passes through Upper Austria and is perfect for long, leisurely rides along the river.

Upper Austria is a very e-bike-friendly area. The region features dedicated bike hotels, signposted trails, charging stations, and rental shops. Trains are bike-accessible, and some ferries even allow you to cross lakes with your bike—great for creating circular or one-way routes.
The best time to cycle here is from late spring to early autumn. Expect mild temperatures, lush green landscapes, and plenty of lakeside spots for a dip or a coffee break. Autumn brings quieter trails and colourful scenery, ideal for relaxed touring.
I’ve ridden many of the Salzkammergut’s lake loops and explored the quieter backroads across Upper Austria. I’ll be sharing these experiences on the site, along with practical tips and photos.
If you like scenic routes with plenty of variety and a relaxed, welcoming feel, Upper Austria and the Salzkammergut are ideal for your next e-bike adventure.
