E-Biking in Styria (Steiermark): Green Heart of Austria, Made for Two Wheels
Styria is known as the “Green Heart of Austria”, and it’s a perfect match for e-bikers who enjoy varied terrain, lush landscapes, and a mix of nature, culture, and local food. From gentle riverside routes to vineyard trails and forested climbs, this region offers something for every level of rider.
The Mur Cycle Path is one of the highlights—stretching from the high Alps near Murau through Graz and into the south, it’s a brilliant long-distance ride with plenty of options to break it into shorter, scenic sections. You’ll also find great vineyard loops in the Südsteiermark (South Styrian Wine Road), as well as peaceful routes through the thermal spa region and apple orchards of Eastern Styria.
Styria is very e-bike friendly, with a growing network of charging points, rental stations, bike-friendly accommodation, and signposted routes. Public transport options also make it easy to explore different parts of the region without needing to double back.
The cycling season runs from spring through to late autumn. Spring brings blossoms and fresh green landscapes, summer is perfect for forested rides and lake dips, and autumn is harvest time, with pumpkins, grapes, and apples everywhere you go.
I’ve explored a wide range of routes across the province—from river paths and wine roads to woodland trails and hilltop viewpoints. I’ll be sharing these on the site, along with route details, tips, and photos, to help you get started.
If you’re looking for a mix of peaceful nature, great food, and rewarding rides, Styria is a fantastic place to explore by e-bike.
