Switzerland might be known for its mountains, but don’t be put off; there’s plenty here for e-bike riders of all levels. One of the most popular routes is around Lake Constance (Bodensee), where you can cycle through Switzerland, Germany, and Austria in one scenic loop. It’s mostly flat, well-marked, and packed with charming towns, lakeside cafés, and panoramic views perfect for a relaxed e-bike tour.
For something more off the beaten track, the area around Zuzwil in the canton of St. Gallen offers peaceful countryside riding with quiet lanes, farmland, and forest trails. It’s a proper hidden gem — no crowds, just you, your bike, and the sound of cowbells in the distance.
Or head to St. Moritz, which offers a stunning mix of alpine scenery, charming villages, and peaceful lakeside paths. Starting from the glamorous town of St. Moritz, you can explore the gentle lakeside trails or take on more adventurous climbs above Pontresina, where panoramic views over the Engadin Valley await. The ride to Maloja is a real highlight, offering sweeping views across the Upper Engadin’s lakes and forests, as well as long, quiet stretches perfect for e-bikes. Whether you’re gliding along flat paths or tackling alpine ascents with a little motorised help, this region is a dream for cyclists looking for beauty without the burn.
Infrastructure
Switzerland’s cycling infrastructure is excellent, with national and regional routes clearly marked, bike-friendly transport, and plenty of places to recharge both yourself and your battery. The climate is ideal for cycling from late spring through early autumn. May to September offers the best mix of warm days and dry conditions, especially in lower-altitude areas.
