I feel at my best when I am up high and able to enjoy a beautiful view. Living in the Austrian Tirol means that mountains are all around me and which is the reason I ride an ebike. So here are my 5 top tips for cycling uphill on an ebike.
My 5 top tips
- Keep cadence* at a pace you can keep going. Too fast and you will tire easily. Too slow and you will stop. *Cadence – means the number of times you turn the pedals per minute.
- Don’t grind* in a big gear on turbo or you will use up the battery power too quickly. Plus long term this will wear out your gears and chain faster. *Grind – means pedalling slowly using brute force
- If you stop on a steep part, set off again with your bike facing diagonally across the track. Ensure you watch out for who or what is behind you. Don’t put the bike in turbo or you could shoot forward too quickly and fall or bang into someone or something.
- If all else fails, get off your bike and push to a flatter part of the track. The Bosch system has a ‘push assist’ option which will help move your bike up a steeper part of the track.
- Don’t cling to the handlebars in a death grip, everything will cramp up and you will feel the pain the next day. Relax and remember the view will be worth it.
