LiON Smartcharger

I have using the LiON Smartcharger for a few weeks now and I am getting used to the way it works and the flexibility it offers, and I like it a lot.

Main points:

Size

The charger is a very handy size; I took it on a tour last week and it makes such a difference when it is all in a handy pouch as it takes up much less room than my Bosch Compact one.

Weight

It is the same weight as my Bosch Compact charger (580g) however my Bosch charger can only charge at a fixed rate (2 amps). The LiON Smartcharger can charge at a variety of rates 1 – 4 amps, the higher ampage you use the faster it will charge your battery. I focus on charging on a low amp as this will protect my battery long term and ensure its longevity.

Flexibility for charging

You have a variety of choices of how you charge and on what power you are charging. From 1-4 amps and you can charge the battery as little or as much as you want plus the bonus of how long you have available to charge it.

Practicality

I found on my tour last week that most nights, I would just put on the ‘slow and full’ charge overnight, this would use 1 amp and would slowly charge over an 8-10 hour period. However, there were 2 days where I was doing high mileage in a particularly hilly area and wanted the security of knowing I would have enough battery all day. So, when I stopped for coffee, I put my battery on charge for half an hour on the ‘fast and full’ option which means it is charging at 4 amps. This meant I had plenty of power to last me the rest of the day.

What I liked

The flexibility of charging modes, the size and the weight are the main key areas for me because of what I use the charger for.

What I found difficult

The only area I found a little difficult is making sure my phone is positioned correctly over the NFC, (near field communication) this is the connection between the app and the charger. It seemed to take me quite a few times before I could get the app to pair with the charger. However, this is a minor issue and I think the more I use it the easier it will become.

No concerns

Don’t worry about not having phone battery or WIFI coverage as the charger stores your previous settings. So you can still charge your battery, just plug in the charger.

Overall, I will give the LiON Smartcharger a thumbs up and will continue to use it in future.
