Preparation – Accommodation

Very important part of preparation is accommodation.

Make sure that you take some time to think about your accommodation. Just like any holiday, where you stay is important. Therefore think about what you want from an accommodation, is it just to rest your weary head or do you like your creature comforts? Do you prefer a bigger hotel with facilities or a more intimate bed & breakfast. Make a list of what you are looking for, I have given you a list below to help with your decision making.

Choose your accommodation carefully

Decisions:

  • Do you want to stay in a hotel, apartment, bed and breakfast, campsite, hostel etc?
  • What is your budget per day?
  • What facilities will you not compromise on?
  • Do they have a secure lock up for your ebike?
  • Can you charge your battery in the lock up or do you need to remove it? (ebike batteries are heavy)
  • Washing & drying facilities for clothes? On a wet day you are going to need it.
  • Check in time? If you finish the day early due to bad weather, you don’t want to be hanging around in wet clothes waiting to check in.
  • Bike wash area? Just in case you get caught in a downpour or it’s really muddy on the track.
  • Dietary requirements? Do they serve dinner or is there somewhere close for dinner?
  • Can you buy a picnic? If you have a long stretch between villages, you might want to take something with you in the morning.

Get it booked

Once you have decided on where you want to stop, then book your accommodation. This will give you peace of mind that you have somewhere to stay. Contact the local tourist offices for recommended ‘bike accommodation’’. It is easier to stay somewhere that is used to bikers and know what you need.

There are obviously online booking systems, but you might not get an accommodation which is either on the route or has facilities that you need.

As I mentioned before, there are tour operators that offer great service for cyclists. So have a look on line and take the pain out of all the organisation. It is a holiday after all.

The benefit of knowing where you are staying, is that you can then look at other points of interest along the route. There are so many sights to see that you don’t want to miss out on anything special, by just keeping on cycling.

Happy planning.
